Well, where are the new shows?

I must admit to being quite absent from this Podcast site lately. It seems that the Sound of the Day podcast takes up about as much of my time every week that I end up wanting to contribute to podcasting. I still love the work I’ve done on Revolution in the Corner (RitC) and still want to make future shows. But since this must be done in the true RitC style, it has to be done when it’s right and when inspiration hits.

In the mean time, the spirit of RitC, I’m injecting as much creativity as I can into the process of Sound of the Day. New hosts are provided for the show each month, new sounds every day, and little cool extras when inspiration hits. I hope this switch toward a more regular publishing path that I can fit into my work schedule is okay with everyone. I assume that some have already decided to remove RitC from their subscription lists, but that others will stay and new listeners will be around for each new show.

As always, thanks for listening, and if you have any feedback, feel free to post it here or drop me some e-mail. I’d love to hear from you.

Still here

Just wanted everyone to know I’m still alive and kicking. Since the Sound of the Day podcast has been taking up so much of my Podcast time, and I’ve been very busy at work, progression on the next Revolution in the Corner has been slow, but steady. Thanks for your patience. It will be rewarded soon.

Oh, and I’m taking some time off to head out to Coachella this year. Man, this should be great. I plan to come back relaxed and hit the Podcast scene full of stories and music.

13th Podcast Live!

It’s a sign of the Apocalypse, I know, but you can start warming up your Podcast aggregators - the 13th Revolution in the Corner show is now online. The word for this show is Mellow…

Revolution in the Corner Podcast 013

Even though it’s a bit of a low key show in comparison to previous shows, I had a lot of fun. Check out the bands presented from Magnatune this time around:

Hope you enjoyed it… and, as always, thanks for listening!

Not sure what’s up…

For some reason, I can’t seem to get off dead center to get out a new show. I think some of it has to do with feeling guilty for not having done one in so long, but another big reason is just being a bit overworked and depressed. This show takes a lot of effort and time - two things I’m having trouble finding reserves of lately. I’ve also been neglecting e-mail lately. It seems I’m just in a slump. To combat this, I’ve scheduled a nice vacation to California in early May to visit friends, get away and go to the Coachella Festival. This is one vacation I cannot cancel at the last minute (like last time).

In the mean time, I thought I would let people who are interested know that I’m the person who produces the Sound of the Day podcast. I hope knowing this will help people who might be disappointed with the lack of Revolution in the Corner shows lately understand that I’m still contributing. I really want to get out a new RitC show and it will happen soon, but (as will all volunteer efforts), it should only happen when the time is right. Forcing the show out will just result in crap I’ll be unhappy with and you’ll find lacking in quality - two things that would be worse than waiting for the next episode.

Thanks for continuing to stick with me and for being patient. If you have any feedback, I’d love to hear from you.

So here’s my thoughts…

It seems to me that since my ability to push out a show a week has been limited, I’ve decided to make Revolution in the Corner a monthly gig for me. I’d love to make it full time, but the money’s simply not there and free time has been very limited lately. If anyone decides that’s not frequent enough to stick around, you will be missed. I hope, however, that everyone will remain subscribed to this show. Although it will not be produced every week or two, a less frequent show will allow me to keep going without killing myself and will help me maintain other Podcasts I’ve been producing.

If you’re still with me, thanks for understanding. The next show is well underway and should be available soon. Enjoy the weekend and any religious or secular festivities associated with it.

I will continue to update this written blog more and more frequently, so stay subscribed. I look forward to your e-mail and feedback and to having a new Revolution out soon.

…and, as always, thanks for listening.

PSP in Hand!

Well, I broke down and bought a Sony PSP this morning. To keep myself (and anyone else reading this who cares) abreast of the latest PSP news and features, I’ll be updating this post with links to fun and interesting stuff for the new gaming/video/WiFi/convergence platform:

This week’s show…

Work has been done and I’m still hopeful that I can get a show out today, but it might slide a day or two since production on this show is taking longer than I anticipated. Just thought you might like to know….

Animation Fans Rejoice: Creature Comforts Series

In case you didn’t know, the creators of Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run have also created a wonderful animated short called Creature Comforts. Well, it seems that these geniuses at Aardman Studios have been working overtime turning this entertaining little show into a full-fledged television series. The problem is that anyone that can’t play Region 2 DVDs (i.e. most people who don’t live in Europe) will only be able to use the recently released deluxe box set for this show as an expensive set of beverage coasters.

The good news for those of us in the US is that Comedy Central has decided to start airing the show. Check out the online listing for Comedy Central’s broadcast of the Creature Comforts television series.

I just thought you might like to know. :D

Upgrade complete

Now that the upgrade the WordPress 1.5 is complete, and while I look for another place to serve my Podcast mp3s, I find myself with another problem to solve: storage overages. Before I was just concerned with bandwidth, but now it seems my old mp3s are taking up too much space to accommodate all the things I’m doing online.

I need another, decent, inexpensive hosting solution quickly or I will be forced to remove some of my older shows. In fact, I’ve already deleted some of the earliest posts that weren’t really Podcasts, but only songs. If anyone misses the old files, let me know otherwise, I’ll just leave them offline.

Spring cleaning is a good thing. ;)

Upgraded to WordPress 1.5

Hold on to your pants (or whatever you have around your legs… if you have legs). I’m about to backup everything and upgrade from WordPress 1.2.x to 1.5. We’ll see you on the other side.

UPDATE: Well, the upgrade was painless from an install perspective, but (as you can plainly see), the design template isn’t online yet. No files were overwritten, but the nature of the new template system caused the old setup to be obsolete… at least as far as I can tell for now.

I will work on coming up with a revised design, but I doubt I will be working too hard to integrate the old CSS as the work done under the hood of this upgrade is pretty serious. A new layout isn’t a bad idea anyway. The RSS feed should still be working, so if anything other than the layout isn’t working for you, please let me know!

…and, as always, thanks for listening. :)

Downloads are up!

Oh my goodness. I checked by Webstats for the first time in a while and it seems the latest Revolution in the Corner show is quite popular. In fact, I’m planning to start searching for bandwidth alternatives. If things keep up at the current rate, I might need to look into setting up a tip jar while I look into federal funding. ;)

But I’m certainly not complaining. It’s exciting to see that people are tuning in. If you have any feedback, I’d love to hear from you. When you write, please let me know how you heard of the show.

… and as always, thanks for listening!

Austin Podcasts

I’ve always wanted to start a list of Podcasts that were produced in Austin like this one, so here we go…

Thanks to Ruth @ Podcast.Net for the updates!

Know of any others? Let me know so I can add them to this list!

SxSW Podcast Update

It seems that there is going to be a great session during the SxSW Interactive trade show called “The Future of Podcasting” on Monday, the 14th of March. It will be on the Day Stage. If you’re looking for a free way to get into the event, just take the survey for a free 1-day pass to the SXSW Interactive/Film Trade Show + Exhibition.

I’ll be there. Hope to see you there too.

Details are solidifying for a couple of Austin Podcasters Get Togethers. Interested?

…and drop by CitizenPod for some cool SxSW goodies for your iPod!

12th Podcast Live!

So much for my anticipated vacation. :D

This show introduces a new segment called “What’s Happening in Austin”. This week’s segment is all about SxSW and how it’s the first year for Podcasting! After that, we quickly devolve into our regular segment called “Let’s Go Somewhere Else” which is a great excuse to introduce you to a great band named Drop Trio brought to my attention via MangaTune. Hope you enjoy the show. If you get a chance, I’d love to hear from you.

SxSW Podcast Get-Together

Will you be in Austin for SxSW later this month? Are you a Podcast author or enthusiast? Well it looks like there will be an upcoming event where we can all get together during the festival. I don’t know much about it now, but stay tuned. As details develop, they will be posted here. If you want to be brought into the loop of planning and/or receive direct mail as things are planned, drop me a line.

To keep you up to date on SxSW Podcast information, I’ve added a little section below to give you all the links you’ll need to enjoy Austin, SxSW, and Podcasting in Austin:

More info will be posted here as it becomes available. If you have anything to contribute, I’d love to hear any SxSW Podcast information you have to share.

Okay, here’s the deal…

One thing I have not been able to do in the last three years is relax much. Although I enjoy Podcasting immensely, it is a labor of love. This weekend, I will be taking the first vacation I’ve had since 2001. That mixed with my amazingly stressful work and personal life this last week means this is a very much needed (and deserved) break. I will be getting out of town and leaving all technology behind. We’ll see how quickly it takes me to start experiencing withdrawl symptoms. ;)

As a result, I will not be meeting my expected release of a new show this weekend, but I’m still very excited about getting the next show out. Ideas are already percolating and the show promises to be one of my best.

Thanks for sticking with me. When the next show comes out, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Update….

Okay, I was all prepared to take some time off. Then I caught up with my backlog of podcasts and came across the extremely nice things Nicole Simon said about the show. Sometimes all it takes is one nice thing said from one person to get me really excited about doing the show again. Thanks, so much for the spark of enthusiasm, Nicole! :D

Expect a new show very very soon… maybe even a short mid-week show in a few days to make up for the last two weekends off.

Oh, and Nicole’s show Useful Sounds is one of my favorites. I even referenced it once in a Revolution close to the end of 2004. It’s always linked on the left side of this page along with the Podcasts I never miss. Check it out today!

A month off?

I’m seriously considering taking the next month off from doing my Podcast. If I do decide to follow this path, I will not be abandoning this show in the least and I hope you will stay subscribed. My main reason for holding off on shows at least for another week is the increasingly intense schedule of work I have from my 9-5 job, and a need for me to spend more time taking care of domestic needs.

I’ll be updating this blog in the mean time, and will take every opportunity to work on new shows in the interim. I still love doing the show, I just need some time to reflect and come up with truly unique ideas rather than feeling the pressure to produce content when other, more personal things are on my mind. Any words of encouragement or otherwise that you would like to pass on would be appreciated.

Look forward to putting out a new show soon.

Getting a show out?

I’ll do my best to get something out this weekend, but my work life has been quite intense lately, so I’m enjoying a quiet weekend off not doing much. In fact, I’m so happy to have the opportunity to promote the Bran Flakes, that I think I’ll most likely leave their show in the top spot for another weekend.

BTW: Did you find the “hidden” message in last week’s show? :D

11th Podcast Live! - The UnShow

With this, the eleventh show, I’m caught with my pants down… well, not literally. It seems someone recorded me getting ready for the show and then took my ideas and turned it into a show for me. Although it seems a little unfair, it sure cut down on the amount of work that needed to go into the show, that’s for sure.

The featured band this time around is one of my favorites: The Bran Flakes. I’ve had them on my links section since day one and I think they are one of the most fun plunderphonics/remix bands around. I only wish they would tour outside their native Seattle area. The songs used for this show were:
